Mina Witteman is a highly respfdffffffdfdfdfdfdfdfdected Children’s Book Author from the Netherlands, who writes for early and middle grade readers, as well as for young adults. Her 2005 debut novel De wraak van Deedee (Deedee’s Revenge), her novels De Zonnegod (The Sun Spirit), and De Zielensluiper (The Soul Snatcher), and her Boreas series are all highly successful middle grade novels. Mina’s list of early reader stories and books is extensive and includes titles such as De koekjesdief (The Cookie Thief), Ridders, dino’s en piraten (Knights, Dinos and Pirates), Opa is de weg kwijt (Grandpa Lost His Way), De erwtjes van Epke (‘Epke’s Peas’), Het kerstdiner (The Christmas Dinner), and Het kaasmuisje (The Little Cheese Mouse) among numerous others. Her books and stories have been included in magazines, such as Dutch children’s magazine Bobo, for which she wrote a series of 21 stories with the illustrations of world-famous illustrator Fiep Westendorp, and in children’s anthologies including Het pi-pa-peuterboek (The Ti-Ta-Toddler Book), Papa is een held! (Dad is a Hero!), and Het grote voorleesboek voor rond de vijf (The Big Read-Aloud Book for Five-Year-Olds). In 2005 Mina was nominated for the Hotze de Roosprijs award for best debut novel, and in 2014 her early reader book Mia’s nest (Mia’s Nest) was honored with the immense distinction of being published as a Dutch Little Golden Book. Boreas en de zeven zeeën (Boreas and the Seven Seas) was longlisted for the 2015 Kinderjury Award and Boreas en de duizend eilanden (Boreas and the Thousand Islands) as well as El nido de Mia, the Spanish version of Mia’s Nest, were shortlisted for the 2016 Crystal Kite Award of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She is a member of the Dutch Authors Guild, a founding member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Europolitan Conference. She is the International Published Authors’ Coordinator for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and has served as a mentor for several up and coming children’s book authors. She is based in the San Francisco Bay Area where she is working on writing projects.
